Meet the Director/Instructor

Tasha McJunkin is a certified Harmony Road Music School instructor. She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Cal. State University, Los Angeles in 1996. She began teaching at Rolling Hills Yamaha Music School as a music/piano instructor in 1992. It was during the next five years of teaching at Yamaha music school, her love for teaching music/piano to young children grew deeper. Watching the children, as young as 4 years old, being able to identify pitches by-ear through singing, and listening, and playing musical pieces with both hands, only after one semester of program increased her belief and confidence in their ability to learn music at such a young age.

Tasha has been teaching private piano lessons over 30 years and she is a member of the Music Teachers Association of California. When she was introduced to the Harmony Road Music program, she was excited to find out that the program is very similar to Yamaha Music School. She was very impressed with the toddlers program for 18 months to 2 ½ years, and the 3 & 4 years classes available through Harmony Road Music School. The Harmony Road curriculum teaches older group piano students how to improvise and compose their own music at the piano, transpose songs, and choose chord accompaniments by ear. These are skills many would think only advanced students could learn.

“The program truly teaches whole musicianship and I’m excited to introduce this music program to Tehachapi. I believe that many children from ages 18 months to 11 years old can benefit from this high quality, comprehensive music program."
